Steven Zlotowski, MD, is a board-certified emergency medicine physician practicing in Chico, CA.
From March 2020 – March 2022, he was the chairperson of his hospital’s Covid Task Force. For sixteen years, he served as the chief financial officer of his physician group and as an assistant director in his emergency department.
Dr. Z is a trained facilitator for critical incident stress debriefings, helping healthcare workers manage the emotional fall-out of secondary trauma after caring for patients and families. Earlier professional experiences include serving as chief resident during his specialty training, a flight physician and a wilderness medicine base command physician.
In work outside the ER, Steve is a National Geographic Expeditions physician since 2023. He has also supported patients in their recovery from Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) through weekly therapy and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) sessions.
This is Steve’s first book. He’s also made a short film, Faith’s Gambit. Steve is a contest winning storyteller and hosts storytelling events at two venues. Other community passions have included interviewing military veterans and WWII survivors at local gatherings.
